About 30 km south of Korat one can visit the famous Silk-town Pak Thong Chai with lots of small and medium-size silk manufacturers who still produce, dye and hand-weave silk with traditional methods. They'll be happy to show you around their production facilities and finally the showroom for purchases. The biggest attraction is probably Jim Thompson, a huge silk farm that also houses the famous Jim Thompson Art Farm in the weeks around New Year. Well worth a visit. There are also some good restaurants around.
